Understanding Your Rights When Companies Threaten Payment or Legal Action

Following the suspension by the VOA of certain rogue companies like Rateable Value Experts, Re-Rates UK and My Rates, earlier this year, it has become apparent that there are still similar companies operating within the industry, that operate with the same lack of ethics, commercial responsibility, and unscrupulous practices /standards, and will employ the same scare tactics, as the above mentioned rogue companies, in order to enforce their contractual terms and conditions, in an attempt to obtain unwarranted financial compensation from their clients, which they are not entitled to.

Should you have received any invoice demanding payment regarding a breach of contract from another rating company, threatening legal action, we urge you to ask yourself, whether they have conducted the following:

  • An initial consultation

  • A preliminary investigation in order to establish whether or not you have grounds for your appeal

  • Whether or not they conducted a full site survey of your premises, in its current state, with specific regard to the data that the VOA currently holds upon it.

Should any of the above points not have been conducted, then we would urge you to question the legitimacy of the company that is demanding payment of any invoice, or threatening legal action against you.
